Trekking is not just about walking
and taking a backpack, it is also about what goes in that backpack and how competently
you walk. If treks, hikes and mountains have been enticing you but the very
idea of a trek frightens you, do not fuss. There is a first time for every such
step and after you have reached the highest peak, that trek will alter you for
good. Preparing well for your first trek becomes the base for preparing you psychologically
for future expeditions and treks.
Here are some tips to warm you up
and get you started for preparing for your very first trek.
- Condition and train your body
Begin working on your resilience
by starting morning walks or whenever you get time in the day. Slowly increase
the intensity of your strolls. Practice walking on the same terrain like you
are heading to.
- Right footwear
Buy good trekking shoes that offer
protection to your ankle. Walk in them days prior to the trek. This way you do
not have to be anxious about trekking extensive distance and ending up in a
shoe bite on your very first day of the trek. In addition, take socks that absorb
moisture, such as, a wool or nylon pair.
- Train your legs
Legs are going to make it doable
for you so you need to ensure they are in great shape. Train your legs with
lunges, squats, leg presses, cycling, and other sports that keep your interest
like football, swimming, etc.
- Select an easy trek to start with
Do not overexert or overestimate
your body by aiming too high. There are lots of stunning and demanding treks
for a novice trekker to select from. Nearly always the treks are distinguished
on the complexity scale from simple to reasonable to severe. Begin slow, start
trouble-free and gain self-confidence. Your body will show you gratitude for
it.
- Walk with your backpack
Gradually enhance the quality of
your long walks by taking a backpack that you will take along the trek. If not
the same rucksack but take something of the same size, load it and just stroll
with it. This will make you accustomed to the weight that you will be managing.
- Right and light packing
Pack rain gear, warm clothes, torch,
medicines, etc. It all relies on the extent of your trek. The idea is to pack
right and stuff your backpack with additional pair of denims, shoes or sweaters.
Do not forget you are going to take that bag.
- Stay hydrated and eat right
Pack bars, dry fruits,
chocolates, trail mixes to get that energy boost. The significance of keeping
yourself hydrated cannot be said adequate to make it count. Drink water to prevent
cramps on the paths.
- Wear layers
When walking your body will sweat
and you would like to take off that jacket. So wear a cotton tee, a warmer, a
jacket and a sweatshirt so you can get rid of and wear layers as and when you
feel the necessity to.
